Breath Mints / Battle Scars Review

Breath Mints / Battle Scars By Onyx and Elm

Summary | For a moment, she's almost giddy. Because Draco Malfoy's been ruined by this war and he's as out of place as she is and — yes, he has scars too. He's got an even bigger one. She wonders whether one day they'll compare sizes.

Another 8th year fic. But let’s start by agreeing that Draco and Hermione are toxic in this one. Their entire relationship is just unhealthy and reckless. But for whatever reason, it works for them (in a way, still toxic as hell, but they figure it out) I surprisingly really enjoyed seeing the darker version of Draco that fits more with his original character. He’s still the cruel Slytherin we all fell in love with, and never seems to completely turn into a better person. But seeing Hermione manage to break through his walls actually seemed fitting. And to see his internal struggle of light vs dark, and growth and healing felt very realistic. And the one person he truly despised, but also desperately wanted and needed, eventually loving him too made my heart swell for him. (Even though they continued trying to push each other away just to always be drawn back together)

Pansy and Hermione’s relationship development was honestly one of my favorite parts. And Pansy’s reasoning behind her actions made me see her in such a different light.

Also, I only cried twice and it was all in the last few chapters.

If you’re into 8th year Dramione, with a bit of darkness, I would definitely recommend checking this one out.
